Brockville - This local group of re-enactors presented with the keys to Fort Henry presented the said keys to City Council and the people of Brockville on Tuesday evening at City Hall.

A delegation of the Brockville Infantry Company (1862) presented to the Mayor and the Council of the City of Brockville the keys to Fort Henry, the very rare honor they had received on September 12th.

That honor was bestowed upon the Company in honor of its twentieth anniversary and in recognition of twenty years of great cooperation with the Fort.

The Infantry Company felt this great honor should be shared with the City for their support of the Company over the years and with all the citizens of Brockville.

The Company also requested from Council, and received, permission that the keys, along with an explanatory text and photos, be on display at City Hall.

After reading of a presentation text by Company Clerk Denis Savage, Mayor David Henderson, in a playful mood, said: Colour Sarjeant Bruno Pépin, bring the keys, I’m ready.

And he showed up his hands in the white gloves he had put on for the occasion and invited the delegation to come forward.

What followed was a rather unusual scene at a Council meeting: the councilors walked away from their desks and huddled around Mayor Henderson with the keys and Infantry Company members.

Thank you, City and citizens of Brockville for your continued support as the Infantry Company strives to continue its good will ambassadorship here and in many other venues.
